Introduction to Sport, Fitness & Recreation (4-Unit Short Course)

How it works

Designed for delivery to Year 10 or Senior (Year 11-12) classes e.g. HPE, Sport Academy, Recreation.

Delivered across 2 (or more) terms. Includes both:

  • Introduction to Sport & Recreation (1 Term), comprising 2 units of competency.
  • Introduction to Fitness (1 Term), comprising an additional 2 units of competency.

Also available in 1 term options.

Topics include:

  • Conducting Sport Coaching Sessions
  • Personal Development and Self Awareness
  • Introduction to Anatomy
  • Introduction to Healthy Eating
  • Fitness Programs
  • Optional: Provide CPR Certificate

Binnacle’s ‘Introduction to Sport, Fitness & Recreation’ is the perfect fit for schools:

  • Looking for a Year 10 option in their HPE or Sports Academy Programs prior to commencing the Binnacle Certificate III program in Year 11.
  • Looking for a term or semester of work (or spread across multiple semesters) to bolster an existing subject offering.
  • Who may not be able to offer a full Certificate III program (e.g. Sport and Recreation or Fitness).

School requirements

HPE Teacher (Program Deliverer)
  • A current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment 
  • Sport coaching and fitness instruction experience
Sport Programs
  • Access to programs or classes where students will participate as Junior Sport & Fitness Activity Assistants.

What Students Achieve

  • A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment – 4 elective units of competency towards the qualification SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness
  • Maximum 2 QCE Credits (QLD Schools)

Please note that a maximum of 8 credits from the same training package can contribute to a QCE. Students that complete the Short Course: Introduction to Sport, Fitness & Recreation and then go on to complete a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation (or Certificate III in Fitness) will gain a maximum of 8 QCE credits.
