NICHOLAS MARCHESI

KEYNOTE SPEAKER (DAY 1)

On a mission to improve hygiene standards for the 116,000 people experiencing homelessness across Australia, Nicholas Marchesi and Lucas Patchett stumbled on something much bigger and more significant – the power of a conversation.

Orange Sky now operates 36 services across 25 locations in Australia and three services across two locations in New Zealand, with continued expansion across both countries. The focus is on creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or feel disconnected from the community. Since 2014, Orange Sky has provided more than 2.1 million kilograms of free laundry, over 23,000 warm, safe showers, and more than 380,000 hours of genuine and non-judgemental conversation.

Innovation is in the DNA of Orange Sky. Orange Sky continues to priorities finding ways to deliver on its mission through evolving its service offerings and projects. One way this has been done is when Orange Sky won the Google Impact Challenge Grant to take its purpose built technology and further build it to support the notfor-profit sector and improve the volunteer lifecycle. ‘Volaby’ supports dozens of small and large charities across the world to innovate, make data-driven decisions, and harness technology for good. Orange Sky, under the leadership of Nic and Lucas, are committed to delivering on Orange Sky’s 2025 vision to help more than 40,000 people.

DREW CAMPBELL & ALEX BAKER

TOURISM INDUSTRY SPEAKERS

Born in South Africa and raised in southeast Queensland, Drew honed his craft for curating original and enriching experiences after moving to Cape Town following his university years, where he founded Kiff Kombi Tours in 2016. Taking visitors on an alternative exploration of the city’s top attractions and secret gems, Kiff Kombi Tours is still in operation and has been nominated for two prestigious awards: World’s Best Sustainable Tour Operator at the Global Youth Travel Awards in Edinburgh in 2018, and Cape Town’s Best Sightseeing Tour at the 2019 Cape Town Experiences Awards. Leading travel agency, TravelStart, has also rated Kiff Kombi Tours among the Best Tour Companies in South Africa.

Drew realised that the Kiff Kombi Tours concept was ideally suited to his old stomping ground, which is now known as one of regional Australia’s hottest food and drink destinations.

Having spent a majority of his 20’s overseas and working in hotels, bars and as a professional photographer and videographer for the past 10 years, Alex brings a unique palate of skills to Kiff & Culture. While looking after the marketing and content side of things, Alex is also the co-founder and lead guide for the business that launched in mid-2021.

After living and working all over the world between them, the boys are stoked to be able to share their corner of Australia with you now. Offering unique experiences with some of Australia’s best farm-to-plate restaurants, wineries, distilleries and craft breweries, Kiff & Culture has placed themselves as one of the most premium food & drink experiences offerings in South East QLD and Northern NSW.

Having partnered with the luxury environmentally focused hotel chain, Crystalbrook Collection, they recently launched their much coveted multi-day Brisbane to Byron Food Trail. The first of its kind in the region, pairing responsible luxury with the best food & drink offerings from Brisbane to Byron.

KIRBY SHORT

SPORT INDUSTRY SPEAKER

Kirby Short is queen of the ‘balancing act’. From a long and distinguished career with the Queensland Fire and Brisbane Heat (captaining the latter to back-to-back WBBL championships) to simultaneously pursuing a career in the education profession as Deputy Principal of MacGregor State High School – Short is a born leader.

Having played 72 one-day games for Queensland and 67 WBBL games for the Heat, Short retired at the end of the 2020 season leaving an indelible mark on the women in sport landscape. Known for her poise on and off the field, it was unsurprising to see her make the seamless transition to the media – with roles as a commentator on radio for the ABC and television on Seven Sport and Fox Cricket.

With her innate ability to articulate and lead in a variety of contexts, Kirby is a wonderful addition to our 2022 Sport & Fitness Virtual Workshop presenter line-up.

JOEY BRADLEY

FITNESS INDUSTRY SPEAKER

Joey has been in the fitness industry for the past 5 years after previously playing rugby league at the elite level. He was a part of an academy program where he studied Certificate III and Certificate IV in Fitness along with a Business Diploma.

This led him to the fitness industry and group training in particular as it reminded me of the team environment in sport. For the past three years he has been the Head Coach and Studio Manager of Body Fit Training South Brisbane which involves coaching, marketing, sales, cleaning and everything in between. Being forced to adapt on the fly to the COVID-19 pandemic and more recently the SEQ floods has been challenging, but it has allowed the community of BFT South Brisbane to shine through.

BFT’s scientific programming is second to none, using heart rate tracking technology and focusing on progressions as we move through 4-6 week training blocks. There’s a reason behind every movement we do in the studio and it caters for any fitness level.

How to maximise each day?

  • Log in to the ‘Elevate’ Virtual Streaming Platform early and make sure you are comfortable and familiar with how to navigate the platform. This will be available to ALL attendees.
  • ALL attendees should have a fully charged device (either laptop or tablet). This will allow you to engage with teachers all over the state via a live chat feed, contribute to ongoing polls, and an opportunity to have your questions responded to by the presenter of each session.
  • Make sure your device has a good internet connection so you don’t miss out on the information addressed in each session due to lag or dropouts.
  • If you are tuning in with a group of colleagues, we encourage you to book out a room in your school and get all your school’s deliverers in one place so you can watch it together.
