Our 2025 Semester 1 Workshop was designed to provide you (our Binnacle Teachers) with up-to-date information from leading industry professionals and practitioners across the fields of – Sport and Recreation, Fitness, First Aid, Business and Tourism whilst elevating your ‘trainer and assessor capacity’.
Our Semester 1 Workshops were delivered on 2 separate dates: Friday 20th June and Wednesday 25th June, each as a virtual event.
The theme of this year’s workshop, “Impact” – reflecting on the daily impact we each have on our student’s learning and career pathways, and the commitment to real, collaborative and trusting partnerships between Binnacle Training, your School, Teachers and Industry. Binnacle Training’s Semester 1 Workshop is a Virtual Professional Development event for Binnacle Deliverers held on Friday 20th June and Wednesday 25th June. This event is FREE for all Binnacle Partner Schools.
This has been done intentionally to provide you (our amazing teachers) with a heavily personalised professional development experience to bring together all Program Deliverers from across Queensland and the ACT. We guarantee that you will leave our Virtual Workshops with actionable content from leading industry professionals addressing all Binnacle Program Areas as well as staying up-to-date with our key Binnacle Updates.
Semester 1 Workshop – Day 1 Program (2025)
Tim Franklin: The man who ran the world! Tim completed an astonishing 26,245km run around the world, crossing 5 continents, in 576 days. In his Keynote address, Tim will share the powerful lessons he learned from his global run and his personal battles. His presentation focuses on goal setting, personal accountability, celebrating success, learning from failure and building motivation and resilience.

Binnacle Training RTO Compliance Manager Jon Banks presents a session focusing on the Principles of Assessment (Fairness, Flexibility, Validity and Reliability) and the Rules of Evidence (Validity, Authenticity, Sufficiency and Currency).
Presented by Binnacle General Manager, Ben Luinys, our General Updates session will include updates on the Binnacle Lounge, your Binnacle Profile, Binnacle’s review processes including marketing, marking and physical resource reviews, and a quick look at the new Standards for RTOs 2025.
Kerrie Morrison presents a session focusing on our 2026 Business and Tourism programs, 2026 pricing updates, this years Binnacle Boss competition, and our available teacher accreditation programs.
Binnacle Program Manager Lachlan presents a session updating our deliverers on our 2026 programs, 2026 pricing, VETiS marking in 2025, student pathways and partnerships and teacher accreditation programs.
5 x CrossFit Games athlete Brandon Swan discusses his online Fitness business ‘Dad Hours’. As a busy parent, Brandon had to find ways to train smarter, not longer, often before the sun came up or long after everyone else was getting ready to go to bed, because that was the only time available. Those hours affectionately became known as his Dad Hours, and this was part of the inspiration in starting his online business which has grown rapidly (now also including ‘Mum Hours’ and their online store). Brad Bulow has been working with SB Group since 2005 and became a Partner two short years later. He has a wealth of experience in Accounting and Business Advisory Services, and provides valuable insight to businesses looking to grow and thrive. Brad is joined by Senior Private Wealth Advisor, Aggie Erdosi from SBB Wealth. Aggie has 15 years experience across some of Australia’s largest financial institutions and a deep passion for building strong client relationships. Andy Panes is the General Manager at the National Institute of First Aid Trainers (NIFAT). He has a wealth of knowledge of First Aid Training and Assessment. Andy’s session is a re-broadcast of his recent NIFAT webinar focusing on the design and assessment of simulated First Aid scenarios for your students.
Cairns Wake Park Owner-operator, Lauren Homer, will share her 20 years of experience working with and now running the Cairns Wake Park. Lauren will be discussing Tourism unit of competency topics including workplace health and safety, visitor information, scripted commentary, staffing, sustainability, and diversity.
