All VET Teachers who hold TAE40110 must obtain the two new core units - TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools and TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills (or equivalent) - to meet the requirements.

The Training and Education (TAE) Training Package was updated in April 2016. This saw TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment be replaced by the new TAE40116. The core units in the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (now TAE40116) were updated to include:

• Design and develop assessment tools; and
• Address adult language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills.

The RTO standards state that a trainer and assessor who holds TAE40110 must also hold these two units. All trainers and assessors (across the whole VET industry) who do not hold the relevant units will have until 1 April 2019 to meet the new credential requirements.

Address adult LLN skills unit. Our records indicate approximately half of our teachers already hold the LLN unit (can be either TAELLN411 or TAELLN401A), either by having completed a short course within the last 3 years (e.g. arranged by your school) or as an elective unit if you completed your Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (e.g. in the last 3 years).

Design and assess assessment tools unit. The majority of our existing teachers won't currently hold this unit and therefore must complete this unit of competency (TAEASS502) prior to  1 April 2019.

TAE Update Events

Binnacle will be assisting by identifying, and in some cases hosting (in partnership with one or more TAE RTOs) a number of 1-day or 2-day workshops for teachers to complete these two units this year.
