How it works

Available in a 2 year format.

Students deliver sport/recreation programs within their school community. Programs include:

  • Officiating games
  • Conduct coaching activities
  • Strength and conditioning program
  • Community sport, fitness and recreation program

Binnacle provides all the resources and support to allow teachers the scope to do what they do best – TEACH!

Excellent fit for schools with sports academies or excellence programs – tailored to the sport/s of your choice.

Includes opportunity for students to undertake an additional 4 competencies (Term 7 Add-On).

Available in Sport Specialty Formats whereby officiating and/or coaching ‘general principles’ accreditation is replaced with the respective sport-specific foundational (e.g. Level 1) accreditation.

  • Annual resource induction for all participating teachers, inclusive of industry-specific and VET professional development.
  • Ongoing PD and in-servicing

School requirements

HPE Teacher (Program Deliverer)
  • A current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment 
  • Sport coaching and officiating experience
School Programs
  • Access to programs, games or competitions where students will assist as coaches or officials.
Partial Completion
  • This course is also offered as a partial completion program.

What students achieve

  • Certificate III in Sport and Recreation (SIS30115)
  • First Aid qualification and CPR certificate
  • Community Coaching – Essential Skills Course (non-accredited), issued by Sport Australia
  • Community Officiating General Principles Course (non-accredited), issued by Sport Australia
  • Maximum 7 QCE Credits (QLD Schools)
  • Students may be able to improve their chances of gaining tertiary entrance. See here ➜
